Jaylen Brown electrified the entire stadium as he gave it his all in the 2024 NBA All-Star Dunk Contest. The Boston Celtics star dunked over one of the event’s best performers Dominique Wilkins. He paid homage to pop icon Michael Jackson by dunking with his left hand wearing a white glove, and leaped over famous streamer Kai Cenat after receiving a pass from teammate Jayson Tatum. However, this was not enough to cement a win over G-Leaguer Mac McClung in the final round.

In the final round, Mac leaped over 7’1″ Shaquille O’Neal to sink an incredible dunk, that sealed the deal for him, winning his second back-to-back All-Star Dunk Contest. After the dust settled down, Jaylen Brown expressed his disappointment in not being able to execute what he set out to do.

After the event, the 3X NBA All-Star disclosed to the media that the floor was slippery, which played a huge part in hampering his performance in the event. Brown said, “I felt like the court was a little slippery so I wish I could’ve done what I planned to do in my head or what I practiced to do, but I still think it came out, the message [still] got sent and I had fun when I was doing it. I can live with those results.” He finished second in the competition.

The ‘slippery floor’ in question is the NBA’s newly introduced LED court, an initiative of Commissioner Adam Silver. Created by German company ASB GlassFloor, it was specially installed for the 2024 NBA All-Star events taking place at the Lucas Oil Stadium. Instant replays and live stats

This is the first-ever fully LED court used in an NBA event and possesses some mindblowing features that enhance the in-arena experience of fans. The highly immersive floor is as interactive as it gets, featuring color and design changes, location-based player tracking animations, instant game replays, and live game stats. However, the highlight of the LED court is definitely the feature that allows fans to play interactive games during timeouts.

This newly introduced LED court might have hindered Jaylen Brown’s delivery in the contest, as he suggested. It wasn’t the best night for Brown, who was met with loud boos amid his dunks.
