The New York Liberty star challenged Steph for a shootout through a tweet last July after she demolished his 3-point contest record. Sabrina shot lights out during the 2023 WNBA 3-point contest and scored a record 37 of the possible 40 points to win the trophy. She beat Steph’s NBA 3-point contest record of 31 points by 6 points. Steph brought up Sabrina’s record in a conversation with rookie Brandin Podziemski during a game this season. “I think I gotta bring her out. We gotta settle this once and for all.” Steph said about Sabrina.

Adam Silver and Co. noticed the buzz around the challenge and made it an official event for the 2024 All-Star Weekend. While Sabrina Ionescu is hungry to prove that she can shoot better than Stephen Curry, the Warriors superstar will also be eager to reclaim his record and put an end to the best shooter debate once and for all. The success of the Sabrina vs. Steph event will give Adam Silver more ideas about incorporating more WNBA stars into the NBA All-Star Weekend.
