Recently a tennis source tweeted on their X (formerly Twitter) that- “Alcaraz got $900K to play in Buenos Aires.” The exorbitant amount has surely garnered a lot of attention. According to Bloomberg, Alcaraz’s total prize money is worth $27 million already. This Spanish tennis prodigy was aiming for the Argentina Open’s $800,000 but his defeat in the quarterfinals ended the goal. However, the organizers of the Argentina Open 2024 are dedicated to attracting top-tier tennis players like Alcaraz. For that, the organizing company Tennium is reportedly aiming to upgrade the tournament level to ATP 500 status.

Tennium has also invested around $1.25 million in building a proper infrastructure at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club. The organizers said- “The tournament each year costs about US$3 million. For Seven years, that’s US $21 million. To keep improving infrastructure, this year we invested US$1 million, last year US$100,000, and in 2022 we invested US$150,00.” This means that the organizers are investing more to upgrade the tournament’s status. For that, they are hosting players like Alcaraz who is the world’s number-two right now.

They said- “But well, Alcaraz is a clay court player, he’s young. In his annual plan he includes the participation in a reduced number of ATP 250s and among those that are attractive for his calender, Buenos Aires is there. After here he also plays in Rio de Jeneiro, where he has a contract to fulfill, and it is close to him. And third, there’s also a business deal between him and us, too.”
