Record-Breaking Oregon Ducks Track and Field Team Faces Major Setback As New NCAA Season Begins

Just over a couple of years ago, the Men of Oregon Ducks decided to dominate the longstanding collegiate track and field records. At the Razorback Invitation, Oregon’s roster accomplished something remarkable. Interestingly, the team managed to break the 12-year-old collegiate distance medley relay records.

The team not only shattered the records but also took over the previous record-setter, the Texas Longhorns, in 2020. Not only this, the Ducks managed to break their own record the next year at Randal Tyson Track Centre. However, the 2024 season has not been fortunate for Oregon’s team.

Recently, Citius Mag took it to their Twitter account and posted a couple of photos of the Oregon Track and Field team. Along with the pictures, they penned, “Last weekend was a historic weekend for the distance medley relay in the NCAA… The 2020 Oregon Ducks squad that broke the longstanding 9:25.97 record set by Texas in 2008 wouldn’t even make it into the NCAA Championships this year.“

Last weekend, all the collegiate teams gathered at the Arkansas Qualifier Meet in Fayetteville to compete against each other. While Oregon was expected to dominate the Medley relay by taking over others, something unexpected happened at the event. Interestingly, the team breaking the 9:25:97 record of Texas in 2020 and who themselves set another record by improving five more seconds the next year was not seen at the championships,

In 2021, Collectively, Cole Hocker, Luis Peralta, Charlie Hunter, and Cooper Teare broke the NCAA record while setting a new all-time world best at the event. The team took over the previous mark of 9:19:93, secured in 2015 by Mike Berry, Matthew Centrowitz, Eric Sowinski, and Pat Casey. But, as the team failed this time, they were required to reanalyze their strategies and undergo a rigorous training process to regain their image as an exceptionally talented sprinting squad. However, another team made its marks competing at the event.

Washington is taking up the limelight
Last Friday, The Washington Track and Field team managed to come up into the records books once again. Huskies managed to set a distance Medley relay record at 9:18:81 at the Arkansas Qualifier Meet. Fortunately, the Huskies displayed prowess on the field as they recorded one second faster than the US National Team, who set the record back in 2015.

Not only Men but also Huskies and Women also shined a few hours after the men. At the Terrier Distance Medley Relay Challenge at Boston University, the women’s team shattered their own NCAA records in 10:43:39. They managed to knock off the previous records that were set a year ago by three seconds.
