Now another passenger has entered that positivity train—this time it’s their 2023 rockstar, Jasson Dominguez. 

Dominguez came in as a silver lining in the dark clouds in the Yankees sky last season. But unfortunately, just as he was getting heated up, an injury disrupted his momentum. The Martian’s Tommy John surgery effectively ruled him out of 2023 and much of 2024. But then, things can change in a second, and the hot reports coming out of the Yankees camp indicate that may have just happened.

Positive news keeps coming for the New York Yankees

Just a few hours ago, it was revealed that Juan Soto was getting ready to start his first batting practice as a Yankee. Before that, pictures of an extremely fit Giancarlo Stanton made waves across the internet. So in a way, the Bombers have been riding a high media wave recently, and now Dominguez has become the latest name in that wave. The slugger is reportedly progressing quite fast in his recovery. 

As Bryan Hoch shared, Dominguez is already throwing at 60 feet. Most importantly, he’s aiming to start swinging next week! It’s a notable pace for the 21-year-old, who had Tommy John surgery on September 20. At that time, it was predicted that he would be out for at least 9–10 months. This put his return timeline in mid-July or August.

Yankees skipper Aaron Boone has repeatedly shared his confidence in Dominguez being available to them this season. Typically, Tommy John surgery affects pitchers far more than position players. Remember when Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper returned after just 160 days of surgery in 2023? Could Dominguez pull something similar?

One shouldn’t put too much stock in this hope, mainly because Harper’s return was an anomaly. More importantly, Dominguez made it clear: he doesn’t want to rush himself back to action. The Yankees, on the other hand, can afford to give him some time.

Unlike last season, the Yankees have impressive depth in their outfield this year. With Alex Verdugo, Juan Soto, and Trent Grisham in their squad, the immediate need for Dominguez is reduced. Also, Bryce Harper returned as a DH, but Dominguez can’t do that due to the presence of Giancarlo Stanton.

This could be a blessing in disguise for the 21-year-old—he can heal completely without any rush. So even though the Martian is ahead of schedule, one still needs to be careful. The Yankees are well prepared, and that can only be a good thing for the Martian.
