Having won the title of the Classic Physique division at the Mr. Olympia, Chris Bumstead continues his reign over bodybuilding. However, in recent times, the conversation about his retirement has been surfacing a lot. Although he has not given an overview of when exactly he plans to move out, the 29 YO has given somewhat an idea of what to expect.

In an interview with Jordan B Peterson, where CBum appeared as a guest, the two spoke about his journey in and off the stage of bodybuilding, and discussed his personal life as well. As his story unraveled, they got into his long-term plans, and what he had in mind for the future. Generation Iron recently took to their official Instagram and highlighted his answer on their profile. Here’s what the legend shared.

To this, he vaguely replied, “I always said I Wouldn’t go past 30. So now that I’m approaching that age, I’m coming to that point where I’m like, coming to the understanding there isn’t going to be one mountain. There are going to be many.” He went on to add how he has always stated that bodybuilding is not forever for him. Even though he is grateful that he got to taste success at a young age, his plans of going off the stage too are made for his early years.

There is no doubt that Chris Bumstead has managed to mark an indelible spot for himself in the annals of the sport. However, the journey has taken a lot out of him, and that sometimes makes him ponder. 

Bodybuilding took a heavy toll on Chris Bumstead’s mental health 

Chris Bumstead in the same interview revealed that the past year, he had a lot of things on his plate. Not being able to prioritize, he spread himself way too thin, which affected the quality of his performance. He said, “I Wasn’t Able to Compete at the Level I Wanted to at the Beginning of the Year.” He gave his best, trying to be good, juggling through his problems, and aiming to defend his title, but that came as a startling realization to him.

He added, “If I want to be the best father I can be, the best husband I can be, the best businessman, the best everything I can be, bodybuilding is going to take away from that.” Now that he has the responsibility of his family with baby Bumstead, and that he has already reached the age of 29, his fans are intrigued to know what CBum’s final decision will be.
