Arnold Schwarzenegger recently shared an inspiring story about his encounter with a remarkable young bodybuilder Kyle Landi. But what is exceptional about this young man is that Landi is that despite having Down syndrome he is breaking barriers in the world of fitness. Just like Schwarzenegger the 23-year-old fitness sensation using his platform to spread a powerful message: “Fitness is for everyone.”

In a recent newsletter, Arnie shared a heartfelt message and emphasized the importance of inclusivity in the fitness community. He highlighted Landi’s dedication to raising awareness about Down syndrome while pursuing his passion for bodybuilding. Schwarzenegger praised Landi’s determination and resilience, stating, “When you see these lifters, whether Miles with cerebral palsy, Derick with one leg, or Kyle and Garrett with Down syndrome, you can’t help but be inspired.”
Schwarzenegger reiterated that fitness knows no boundaries. It doesn’t matter your age, background, or physical ability—everyone can benefit from embracing a fitness lifestyle. He emphasized, “Fitness is for young, old, rich, poor, black, white, straight, gay, man, woman, ‘disabled,’ able-bodied—and anything in between.”

In the newsletter, he mentioned that he typically shares this message annually during the Arnold Classic Festival. However, this year, he decided to share it early, inspired by his encounter with Landi at Gold’s Gym. Not only did he praise Kyle, Miles, Derick, and Garrett, but he also encouraged gym owners to provide platforms for these exceptional and courageous individuals who are willing to change perspectives. The aim is to ensure that nobody is ever looked down upon with sympathy for their disability.
Arnold Schwarzenegger urges ‘Lift them up — don’t put them down’
The 76-year-old urged gym owners and fitness professionals to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome. Arnie stressed the importance of making accommodations for individuals with different needs and abilities, stating, “You have to be inclusive. You can’t turn people away because of who they are.” Moreover, Schwarzenegger called on everyday gym-goers to be ambassadors for inclusivity and kindness. He encouraged them to support and uplift others in their fitness journey, saying, “It’s our responsibility to keep the big tent of fitness open because if we don’t, how could we find this inspiration?”
