Allen’s skills as a quarterback are impressive, ranked fifth in the NFL by Fox Sports. But as luck might have it, the Bills haven’t been able to make it to the Super Bowl in his six seasons with the team. As the team prepares for next year’s Super Bowl, Allen’s shoulder injury poses a major question mark on his presence in the team.
Will Allen go for shoulder surgery before the 2024 season?
In Week 6, Allen suffered a head injury in his match against the New York Giants, where he had to exit for some time before rejoining the game after a few plays. Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the quarterback again hurt his shoulder, from which he said he feels “discomfort” as a thrower in a conversation with ESPN. Later, he described the pain as “funky” during the match against the Patriots in Week 17.
“Obviously, unfortunate when it’s your throwing shoulder,” Allen told ESPN. “As a thrower, you don’t like feeling any sort of, I wouldn’t even call it pain, just discomfort in there. So, we’re just trying to stay on top of it and get ahead of it when we can.”

Per Buffalo News, Allen said he wouldn’t be getting surgery “at the moment,” despite the pain changing his throwing style. After his loss to the Chiefs that crushed the Bills’ chances of reaching the Super Bowl, Allen talked about how the pain has altered his throwing dynamics.
“If you talk to any thrower — pitcher, quarterback — any time you feel pain in your throwing shoulder or your elbow or your hand, it’s never a good thing,” Allen said, per Rochester First, “It’s never comforting. And it can tweak sometimes how you deliver the ball. Throughout the season, it’s kind of a mental gymnastic you have to take (into account) too, of, all right, the ball’s not coming out the right way; mechanically, (it) doesn’t feel like me. What can I do to fix this?”

As of now, Josh Allen is not considering going for surgery in the offseason. It’ll be interesting to see whether this decision will affect the Bills’ performance or if Allen, as always, will perform past it.
