Josh Bynes had the fortune of being taken under Ray Lewis’ wings. Lewis had spent his entire 17-year career with the Ravens. Needless to say, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest linebackers of all time. He and Bynes got to play together only for one season, in 2012. But he said in an interview that he learned a whole career’s worth of lessons just from being around Lewis.

And now Bynes is looking to pass on that knowledge, and the wisdom gathered over many years to the next generation of players. But it’s not with the Ravens as you might expect.
Seahawks recruit Josh Bynes to help with LB woes

In a move to bolster their coaching staff, the Seattle Seahawks are set to bring aboard Josh Bynes as a defensive assistant for the upcoming 2024 season. Bynes, who announced his retirement from playing in December 2022, opted for a coaching role after exploring opportunities with the Ravens and Chargers for linebacker coach positions.

He does not have prior coaching experience, but the 34-year-old Bynes brings with him a wealth of knowledge from his extensive playing career as an MVP of the defense. His familiarity with Mike Macdonald’s defensive scheme should facilitate a smooth transition to the sidelines. Bynes will work alongside LB coach Kirk Olivadotti. He boasts 13 years of NFL coaching experience and will provide valuable mentorship to the new addition.
