The seventh event of the 2024 PGA Tour calendar just got over. Interestingly, for Justin Thomas, it was just the fourth tournament he played this season on the men’s circuit. How did he fare, you ask? Well, although he managed to display some amazing gameplay on the first three, the last one at the recent signature event witnessed him missing the cut. But never fear, he’s not someone who gives up that easily.

A tweet was shared by Bob Harig, a golf writer, on his X handle (previously known as Twitter). The post mentions how JT has confirmed his commitment to one of the future events on the Jay Monahan-led circuit, a tournament in which the world No.2, Rory McIlroy himself, might sit out!

The post divulges how Thomas has “committed to the Valspar Championship” which is taking place from March 21 to 24th, a week after the Players Championship. Moreover, the author also revealed how Thomas would become part of a field that includes the likes of Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, and Jordan Spieth, the athletes on T5, T6, and T13 on the OWGR.

Meanwhile, an enthusiast asked if McIlroy would also play in the Valspar Championship as a reply under the post. However, Harig expressed his doubt regarding the same while pointing out how the Northern Irishman is playing the Cognizant Classic, which was until last year known as The Honda Classic.

Then why call it a redemption for JT? Well, out of the four events he played in 2024, the last one, the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club witnessed him not making the weekend cut. Moreover, the loss pushed him a place down on the Official World Golf Rankings and made him occupy the 22nd spot on the same.

Although he couldn’t manage to come out on top or even pass the weekend mark at Riviera, he fared much better in his other tournaments in 2024, painting a justifying picture of the 2-time major champ.

In the third signature event at Riviera, the golfer registered scores of 72-73 over the first two days, placing him well beneath the cutline. Nevertheless, by confirming his commitment to the future tournament, it appears he has hardened his will to take a proper shot at redemption on the Jay Monahan-led PGA Tour.
