Kate Douglass has had a sensational start to the Olympic year. The NCAA icon dominated the 100 and 200 meters at the TYR Pro Series, and continuing her excellent form, the 22-year-old continues to outshine rivals in the 2024 Doha Aquatic World Championships. Douglass was one of the fastest yesterday to qualify for the women’s 50-meter freestyle, and today in finals, she swam quickest as well.

The Olympic Medalist has already one gold to her name and looked to secure the second but fell short. Swedish great Sarah Sjostrom triumphed once again as America’s best took silver.

Kate Douglass shines once again at the Doha World Championships

Kate Douglass finished 2nd fastest of the night in the women’s 50-meter freestyle event on the final day of the 2024 Doha World Championships. She finished in 23.91 seconds to take home the silver medal while Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom bagged back-to-back golds in 23.69 seconds. The bronze medal was prized by Poland’s Katarzyna Wasick in 23.95 seconds.

It marked Douglass’s second silver in three days at the Swimming Worlds. But what was more astonishing is that the 22-year-old became the fastest female American swimmer in 50m freestyle. Douglass’s 23.91 seconds also made her enter the world’s fastest record with only Germany’s Britta Steffen between her and Sarah, who is the fastest in 23.61 seconds.

Today’s gold marked Sarah’s record-extending 23rd career individual medal in the 50m which is the shortest and quickest in aquatics. It was also her 14th individual gold medal and now remains only two shy of Katie Ledecky’s record. If the talk is about, Douglass also has a versatile tally to show.

The 22-year-old jumped in excitement first at the Doha Aquatics Championships after winning the 200m individual medley gold. She then sealed the silver medals in the 50-meter freestyle and 200m breaststroke events. With 4 medals to her name in 4 different events including a gold, Douglass surely has a tally. She also has the honor of being the only second American woman to win an individual medal in three strokes at one World Championship. With Tracy Caulkins in the company, she signs off from Doha.
