The highest-ranked NCAA Gymnastics team Oklahoma Sooners keeps achieving its new milestones every day. OU women’s gymnastics team and men’s gymnastics team recently thrilled their fans by notching remarkable triumphs in the ongoing gymnastics season 2024. Both the gymnastics team of OU started the season with road meet wins and excellently managed to remain No. 1 in the National Rankings.

The Oklahoma men’s gymnastics team secured its road victory at Simpson on Feb 17. On the other hand, the Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team also exhilarated their fans by winning the Metroplex Challenge. The social media handle of the Sooners could not have missed the occasion.
Oklahoma Sooners Dominate NCAA Gymnastics Season 2024

Taking to its official Instagram handle @ou_athletics, Oklahoma Sooners cherished the recent triumph in the NCAA season 2024. Along with posting the collage of Sooners’ most talented gymnasts from both the men’s team and the women’s team, they captioned the post as “𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗗𝘂𝗯𝘀 ✔️”. Apart from appreciating the wins, OU also mentioned Boomer Sooner with the hashtag “#BoomerSooner☝️.” This is the fight song of OU written by Arthur M. Alden.

After returning to the NO. 1 spot in the national rankings with an impressive score, OU’s men’s gymnastics team once again showcased its gymnastics prowess at Cowles Fieldhouse on 17 February, by earning a formidable road victory with 400.600 against No. 14 Simpson College gymnastic team. Simpson scored 360.950 in the event.

Along with the triumph against Simpson, six gymnasts of the team also claimed the event titles. The Sooners continued their impressive streak on vault, securing their fourth consecutive score of 72-plus, adding up to 72.400. Each of the five gymnasts earned scores in the 14s range. Understandably, the head coach let out all the thoughts after the dominating win.
On the road to excellence
After this win at Simpson, Oklahoma head coach Mark Williams applauded the collective team’s efforts, remarking, “Our vault team was really good and better than expected, so I was really happy about that.” Mark went on to express his admiration for the team, “Ignacio did excellent on pommel horse again and had a really good p-bars set. Zach Nunez kind of stepped up on two events that he hasn’t been doing in vault and p-bars.”

The coach’s words highlighted the major performances of his commitment. Sophomore Ignacio Yockers notched a pommel horse by scoring 14.850 points, while senior Zach Nunez earned parallel bars by exerting his impressive score of 13.850. Meanwhile, the women’s team had their time as well.
The women registered victory against the Metroplex Challenge. gymnast Ragan Smith led the team to an incredible victory on the beam. On 17 February the Sooners recorded their fourth score of 198 plus with a thrilling 198.300.

Oklahoma secured its second consecutive title at the 2023 NCAA women’s gymnastics championship, marking its fifth victory in the last seven championships. In the coming weekend, the Sooners men will pause their NCAA team competition to participate in the USA Gymnastics Winter Cup, scheduled for Feb. 23-25 in Louisville, Kentucky.
